Obituary for
William J. "Windy" Alexander
William J. ‘Windy’ Alexander, 79 of Monaca passed away late Wednesday evening, March 14, 2012.
Born in Monaca on September 9, 1932, a son of the late Robert Grant and Wilma Marian (Egger) Alexander, Windy was a graduate of Monaca High School where he was a member of the football team. He then enlisted in US Navy during the Korean War and served aboard the USS Baltimore.
After returning home, he gained employment with St. Joe Minerals (Horsehead Corp.) from where he retired. Windy was a reserved individual who had a knack for tinkering and woodworking.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Barto and a special companion, Nancy Yates.
He leaves two sons: William J. (Marilee) Alexander, Jr. and Jeff (Lorie) Alexander; a daughter, Kimberly Alexander, all of Monaca; five grandchildren, Carey, Ryan, Grant, Taylor and Austin; two great-grandsons and a sister, Delores McCullough, of New Galilee.
The family would like to recognize Sue and Patty and Patty’s granddaughter, Michelle for the compassionate care and attention they gave to Windy.
Friends will be received Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where services will be held at 8 p.m.
Military honors will be provided by the Beaver County Special Unit on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
