Obituary for Homer C. Kifer

Homer C. Kifer, 78, of Center Township, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. His passing occurred at his residence.

Born February 6, 1934, in South Hampton Township, Bedford County, he was a son of the late Chester and Dessie (Kinser) Kifer. A carpenter by trade, Homer was employed at Teledyne Vasco, Colonial Steel Division until his retirement. A faithful member of Sylvania Hills Baptist Church, Rochester, he served for over 43 years in numerous capacities with the church’s mission work. Homer was a longtime member of the Beaver Valley Wood Carvers Club and a former member of Center Township Volunteer Fire Company #1 and

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Shirley A. (Davis) Kifer, with whom he was united in marriage on September 24, 1955; two daughters, Denise Lund and her husband, David, of New Brighton and Kathey Clendenning and her husband, Chris, of Rochester; a son, Mark Kifer and his wife, Nancy, of Newark, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and their spouses; 11 great-grandchildren and a sister, Juanita Leasure of Baltimore, MD.

In addition to his parents Homer was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Owen and a sister, Genevive Magruder.

Friends will be received Friday, October 12th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca. Friends may also call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. in the Sylvania Hills Baptist Church, 567 Pittsburgh Road, Rochester.

He will be laid to rest in Union Cemetery immediately following the service.

The family has suggested memorial contributions be made, if desired to the Sylvania Hills Baptist Church Mission Program or the church’s bus ministry, c/o the church.
