Obituary for Mary DiStanislao (Pulcini)

Mary V. DiStanislao, 90, formerly of Monaca, passed away Friday afternoon, July 26, 2013, at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Residence Hospice in Harrisburg. Mrs. DiStanislao had relocated to Harrisburg last fall to be closer to her family.

Born Feb. 9, 1923, in the Greenfield section of Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Giuseppi and Angelarita Pulcini. The last of eight children, she was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

On Oct 25, 1947, Mary married Anthony J. DiStanislao and was blessed with 59 years of marriage until his passing on Nov. 25, 2006.

Mrs. DiStanislao leaves two sons, Richard A. and his wife, Nancy of Harrisburg and Robert A. of Ambler, PA. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Christa (DiStanislao) Mudd, Sarah (DiStanislao) Stark, Dustin, Michael, Dane, Drew and Julianna DiStanislao and was a godmother to numerous of the neighborhood children.

Mrs. DiStanislao was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca and was a former member of the Monaca Fifth Ward Fire Co. women's auxiliary, Monaca PTA, Aliquippa Queens of Columbus, and treasurer of the Monaca Football Mothers. Mary was employed at Gimbels at the Beaver Valley Mall for 20 years. She started as a sales associate when the store opened at the mall and was one of the last to leave when the store closed. Mary had led an active life with her family that she most cherished.

Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, (724) 728-4000, where prayers will be offered at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.

The family has suggested memorial contributions be made, if desired, to Carolyn Croxton Slane Residence Hospice, 1701 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA, 17110.
