Obituary for Gerald J. "Jerry" Shamp

Jerry Shamp, 58, of Potter and Center Townships, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013, after a short but hard fought battle against lung cancer.

Born October 3, 1954, in New Brighton, PA, he was the son of the late Earl and Joanne Shamp. He leaves his loving wife of 39 years, Robin Bruce Shamp; two sons, Jesse Jay Phillip and Patrick George Quentin, his best buddies and road trip companions; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Earl “Butch” Shamp and his wife, Sheryl, and Robert Shamp; nephews D.J. Bruce, Nick Bruce, and Zack Shamp; niece Cassandra Shamp; brother-in-law, Doug Bruce and wife, Lisa, and father-in-law, Gene Bruce.

Jerry loved bluegrass music, classic rock, spontaneous road trips with his wife, being a world-class handyman, and playing his mandolin around a bonfire with friends. He was always proud of the years he spent coaching Jesse and his friends in baseball and the shared love of cooking that he had with Patrick.

We will always remember him for his passion for life, his love of a joke, and, of course, his silly laugh.

Calling hours will be held Friday, August 30th, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. as well as Saturday, August 31st, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. in Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the family in care of Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, PA 15061.
