Obituary for Jospeh H. Sabella

Joseph H. Sabella, 75, formerly of Monaca and Orange County, CA, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013, at Friendship Ridge.

Born April 13, 1938, in Freedom, he was a son of the late Felice and Mary (Selia) Sabella. Joe was a graduate of Monaca High School and attended Duquesne University and Geneva College. After serving in the US Navy, Joe gained employment with Swepco Steel Co. where he had an illustrious career as a sales representative, travelling throughout the west coast. He later made his home in Orange County, California. He enjoyed golfing, snow skiing and tennis where he had once played with Tom Selleck. He was known for his penchant for Red Hot sauce at every meal. Over the years he touched many people with his good humor and friendly demeanor.

He leaves a daughter, Alexandra Sabella in California and her mother, Sandra; a sister, Rose Grant of Beaver; two brothers, Francis Sabella of Center Township and Ernie (Patti) Sabella of Monaca; a nephew, Dave (Debbie) Grant in addition to numerous other nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents Joe was preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert.

Friends will be received Friday, November 1st, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where parting prayers will be conducted Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Full military honors will be provided by the Beaver County Special Unit at 10:45 a.m. at the cemetery.

Due to his Parkinson’s illness, the family suggests contributions in Mr. Sabella’s name may be made, if desired, to National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., 1501 N.W. 9th Avenue/Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Friendship Ridge 3 East Staff including, 7-3 Shift: Brian Heater, Glynnis Fernandez, Lillian Kimbrough, Danita Hutchins, Mickie Monseau, Marnie Davis, Barb Corrigan, Shelly Houk, Tina Harper, Jamie Bechtal, Candis Ford and Lisa Adams; 3-11 Shift: Mike Lowers, Mary Knight, Alisia Mason and Roxanne Sawicky; and 11-7 Shift: Melissa Williams, Emily Matthews, Cassie Rose and Patricia Eisenbrown, along with fellow patient, Bill Midon. They would also like to thank Dr. Baska and his staff, Nanci Brooks-Koehler, CRNP and Mary Jane Curto and Mrs. Nickoloose for their care of and compassion to Joe.
