Obituary for Charles Keating Burns

Charles Keating Burns, 78, of Monaca, died Friday, November 22, 2013.

Beloved husband and faithful partner of 54 years to Janet, he was the proud father of four children: David (Jessica) Burns, Brian Burns, Susan (Lee) Burns Newman, and Kelly (Doug) Burns Kassab. A Loving brother of Mary Jane Burns Bryner. Proud grandfather of Kelsey, Jenna, and Jonathan Newman. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jane R Burns, and sister Patricia Burns Phillips.

Born and raised in Monaca, he was baptized and married at and a life time member of St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. A member of Monaca Turners and American Legion, he was a regular member of the “morning coffee crew”. His other notable passions included golfing, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

After serving four years in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, he returned to Beaver County and spent thirty years working at Jones & Laughlin and Babcock & Wilcox steel corporations. Prior to retirement, he spent ten years working for United Airlines at Dulles Airport in Reston, Virginia. After retiring, he and Janet enjoyed many years of traveling with their United Airline privileges, wintering in Hawaii and visiting their children.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where parting prayers will be offered on Wednesday at 9:30 am followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 am in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca.

Military honors will be conducted at 10:50 am outside the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley, 1000 Dutch Ridge Road, Beaver, PA. 15009. The family wishes to thank the staff of HVHS Beaver Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospice at HVHS for their outstanding care and support during his journey.
