Obituary for Adah Job Smith (Henry)

Adah J. “Job” Smith, 99, formerly of Monaca, passed away Friday morning, December 13, 2013, at UPMC Cranberry Place.

Born April 2, 1914, in Salem Township, Westmoreland County, she was the last surviving child of the late John Berlin and Nancy Jean (Blose) Henry. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Levi “Mac” Job, and on July 7, 2008, her second husband, Ralph F. Smith. Adah attended Seton Hill College in Greensburg, before working at Bell’s Clover Leaf grocery store for over eight years and Mechlem’s Lumber and Hardware Store for more than 20 years, both in Monaca. A 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star, Naomi Chapter #55, in Rochester, she was also very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Monaca, where she served as Clerk of Session, Elder and Deacon, and a was member of the CMO Class and Senior Circle. Adah served her community as a Judge of Elections in Fifth Ward, a founding member of the Monaca PTA and a Girl Scout leader. In her leisure time she enjoyed crocheting, baking and gardening, and was 'famous' for her homemade quince jelly. Her greatest joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Barbara King and her husband, Glenn, of Center Township; four grandchildren, Susan Capelli, her husband, Joseph, and their daughter, Melissa, of Beaver Creek, Ohio , Sharon Allison, her husband, Michael, and their sons, Marshall and Landon, of Georgetown, Seth Job and Lacy Job and her son, and a step-son, Jerry Smith of Pittsburgh, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, parents and nine siblings, Adah was preceded in death by her son, Richard Maclyn Job.

Friends will be received Tuesday, December 17th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. Her pastor, Rev. Beth Wierman, will officiate.

Interment will follow at Congruity Cemetery, Salem Township.
