Obituary for Betty Hojdila (Swiatek)

Betty Swiatek Hojdila, 89, of Monaca, passed away Thursday morning, January 23, 2014, at Heritage Valley Beaver.

Born February 21, 1924, in Cadogan, PA, she was the last surviving child of Peter and Catherine (Kardish) Swiatek. Betty was a retiree of Westinghouse Electric, Vanport, and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Betty enjoyed her independence of staying in her own home and being able to go when and where she wanted to, especially shopping.

She will be sadly missed by two daughters, Paula Winkle and her husband, David, of Center Township and Suellen Todd and her husband, Bill, of Chandler, AZ; two grandchildren, Curt Winkle of Center Township and Lori (Jim) Leek of Rochester, and three grandchildren, Declan, Braedon and Keegan Leek, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Hojdila, on February 13, 2007; two brothers, Joseph and Walter Swiatek and five sisters, Bernice Tatko, Josephine Pinksaw, Agnes Olshanski, Laura Lintner and Louise Pletz.

Friends will be received Sunday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where prayers will be offered Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca.
Fr. Michael Ruffalo will be the celebrant.

Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
