Obituary for George E. Hromanik

George E. Hromanik, 84 of Freedom passed away early Saturday morning, Feb 1, 2014 at his home.

Born July 10,1929 in Duquesne, PA., he was a son of the late George and Mary Hromanik.
Following graduation from Duquesne High School, George attended the University of Pittsburgh where he was a four year letterman in basketball and earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education.
He then entered the U S Army during the Korean Conflict and served from 1951 to 1953 before coming to Freedom Area High School to begin his career in education as a biology teacher. In 1963, he began teaching biology at Western Beaver High School in Industry, retiring in 1990. During those years, he also coached high school basketball.
George was a tennis champion and recipient of numerous trophies for tennis in Beaver County. Years ago when actor Bill Cosby was in Beaver County, George was invited to play against him.
He was very proud of all of his grandchildren and was fortunate to have his family all together this past July. During that visit, the family went to Kennywood Park and George rode the various rollercoasters with his children. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Freedom and enjoyed gardening and the outdoors.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Wynne (Glontz) Hromanik, to whom he married on August 16, 1958.Two children: daughter, Tracy Hromanik and her partner, Darnell Parker of Rochester and a son, Paul Hromanik and his wife, Laura of Folsom, CA. Five grandchildren: Brooke, Aaron and Jamila Parker, all of Rochester, Evan and Lucas Hromanik of Folsom, CA. A sister, Dorothy Petrosky of Duquesne and a brother in law and his wife, Gary and Jean Glontz of Roanoke, VA.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, Feb 4th from 4-8 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am with the Rev Ronald Kronk, officiating.
