Obituary for Richard William Hurley

Richard W. Hurley, 85, of Industry, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Friendship Ridge.

Born May 4, 1928, in Aliquippa, he was a son of the late Arthur Vincent and Edith Marie (Husted) Hurley. Richard served in the Merchant Marines before gaining employment at J&L Steel Aliquippa Works (LTV Steel). He retired as a first pitman in the basic oxygen furnace with 30 years of service. On November 8, 1947, Richard was married to Sara Mae (Jones) whom he deeply loved. They lived for each other and eyed the world through each other’s eyes. A family man he loved Christmas and was known for his witty comebacks.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Sara Mae; two sons, Richard Hurley and his wife, Mary Ellen of San Bernardino, Calif. and Gregory Hurley and his wife, Patti, of Monaca; nine grandchildren, Rick, Christina, Cheryl, Jack, Mike, Terri, Sarah, Amy and Sam; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Betty Turley and Nancy Hurley.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two sons, William ‘Michael’ in 1990 and Terry in 1998; a daughter, Beverly in 1952; and six brothers, Daniel, Frank, Arthur, Edward, Lawrence and Paul and a sister, Mary.

Friends will be received Sunday, Feb. 23rd from 1 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Doug Rabe will officiate.

Interment will follow at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
