Obituary for Homer M. Austin

Homer M. Austin, 90, formerly of Monaca, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 4, 2011, in Harbour Assisted Living, Greentree.

Born March 7, 1920, in Glenshaw, he was a son of the late Homer Byron and Jenny (Martin) Austin. Mr. Austin was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, on June 18, 2008. The couple was united in marriage on December 24, 1941. During World War II he served in the US Army as a military police in England, France and the Philippines. A retired steelworker with J&L Steel Aliquippa Works, and a member of the steelworkers union, Mr. Austin also belonged to the Beaver Valley Sportsman’s Club, American Legion Post #580 and VFW Post #4653, all in Monaca.

He will be sadly missed by a son, John Austin and his wife, Jean, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, formerly of South Park and Monaca PA; a daughter, Marianne Evans and her husband, Richard ‘Dick’, of Oakdale, PA; five grandchildren, Elise Austin, John (Mary Kay) Evans, Michael (Shawn) Evans, Wendy (Dave) Swartz and Eric (Kari) Evans; five great-grandchildren, Austin, Aubrey, Kaitlyn and Benjamin Evans and Ella Swartz and two sisters, Margaret Bixler of Mt. Lebanon and Rachel Lippold of Morningside.

Friends will be received Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of a blessing service at 5 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca. Rev. Fr. John L. McKenna, pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca, will officiate.

He will be laid to rest beside his wife on Monday morning at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.
