Obituary for Vito R. Vigna Sr.

Vito R. Vigna, Sr., 71, of Monaca, was reunited with his parents on Monday, May 2, 2011. His passing was unexpected.

Born August 6, 1939, in Fairmont, WV, he was a son of the late Rocci and Rose (DeLuca) Vigna. Vito was 15 years old when his family moved to this area so his dad could take a job with J&L Steel (now LTV). Following graduation from Aliquippa High School, Vito relocated to Monaca and soon gained employment with LTV Steel Aliquippa Works from where he retired as a railroad brakeman. He was a parishioner at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. A highlight of his life was spending time with his grandchildren and faithfully attending their baseball games. One the children’s vivid memories is seeing their dad riding up to their homes on a bicycle that he owned since he was 12 years old.

He leaves to mourn his loss three children, Vito R. Vigna Jr. and his wife, Leianne of Monaca, Debra Ann Namie and her husband, Darrell of Center Twp., and Tina Marie Vigna Smith of Monaca; four grandchildren, Darrell Namie Jr., Kolton Vigna, Preston Vigna and Jordan Snyder; his former wife, Noreen Walden; Vito’s longtime companion, Thelma Palko; two step-children, Edward J. Palko Jr. and Deena Palko Johnson; five step-grand-children, Eddie J. Palko III, Sydney Palko, Seth Palko, Dimitri Johnson and Breoni Johnson.

In addition to his parents Vito was preceded in death by a grandson, Sean Snyder and a step-daughter, Robin Palko.

Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where a blessing service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. His pastor, Rev. Fr. John L. McKenna, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
